The Blades of Hessarian are a group which can be recruited as agents in DAI. In this story, the Sword is mentioned as being involved in the murder of Queen Madrigal of Antiva by the Antivan Crows, and the Executors are implicated.

The Sword is the focus of an investigation in Varric's Hard in Hightown series of codex entries, and the Executors make an appearance here, as they are seeking the Sword. Later, Andraste "seeks an executor of her will" and passes the Sword on. Andraste was killed by Hessarian using the Sword of Mercy. If you look closely at the other floating triangles in the concept art, they are all inscribed with lines and shapes - perhaps the arrangement of lines on the triangle on Strife's cloak is a coincidence? What do you think?ĭuring the course of my research into the Executors, Andraste, Hessarian and the Sword of Mercy/Blade of Hessarian kept popping up. I'm not convinced that these red-and-gold figures are Executors based on that symbol alone. Furthermore, the Executor in this story is described as having an otherworldly quality and unclear sex, whereas some of the figures in the concept art are clearly male and female. However, the description of the Executor in The Dread Wolf Take You in Tevinter Nights does not match this concept art. Because of this, I included some lore about the Executors in this week's post. Interestingly, Strife mentions Andruil a lot throughout Three Trees to Midnight in Tevinter Nights.Ī gold, downwards-pointing triangle on Strife's cloak looks like the Executor symbol described in the Investigate Strange Chalk Markings war table mission in DAI, in which the Inquisition learns about the existence of the Executors. I have included some lore here about Andruil, bow-wielding elven goddess of the Hunt. Because of this, and as several of these figures are barefoot/wearing elven foot-wraps, I think these red-and-gold individuals are elves. The figures in the latter art are assumed to be Strife, a city-turned-Dalish elf, who appears in the story.

Further red-and-gold-clad figures can be seen in the art accompanying the Dragon Age Day 2020 short story, Ruins of Reality. In addition, the red-masked archer in the Dragon Age 4 trailer wields a similar bow to the masked archer in the concept art. This red-and-gold-clad archer is similar to the archer and shield-bearer from the concept art featured in the Dragon Age: Behind the Scenes with Bioware feature. This week I examined the masked archer concept art which Christian Dailey shared on Twitter in January. The masked archer pictured is elven, but are the elves the Executors? What's the deal with Andruil and Andraste, and the Executors and the Sword of Mercy/Blade of Hessarian?
